BIOGRAPHY OF INSTRUCTORS
BOB SWABE -
Bob is a retired FBI agent with a wealth of experiences. Three of his most memrable cases were his part
in tracking down James Earl Ray and the 1986 Indiana killer, Michel Wayne Jackson and the Atlanta
child murders. Jackson was the one who after killing his parole officer, went on a killing spree and
wound up in a shoot out with Law Enforcement. For the last 8 years he has been the EMS Agency
Regional Director in TN. Altho Bob is known for his K-9 work he also recognized as a visual tracker in a
class of his own. He has tought this all over the country.
BILL LEDFORD -
Bill was born into the Bloodhound world 70 years ago of since his father was a handler and Bill spent his
childhood growing up behind a dog. He now works his dog while riding on an ATV. He is a man of a
thousand stories and loves sharing them.
WAYNE KEITH -
Wayne is a retired dog handler from the State of Atlanta Correctional system at St. Clair prison. Wayne
has run behind many bloodhounds and GSD's. He is well known for running his bloodhounds
off lead. Wayne will be working with the advanced trailing group. BTW - there were no successful
prison breaks at St. Clair during Wayne's time there as a dog handler.
MAX BRADBURN-
Max has been active in SAR for 20 years. Has worked a SAR dog in traiiling and air scent for the last 2
years. He is a HASMAT and High Angle Rescue instructor. He is a member of CSAR and NCSARDA
where he serves on the training committee.
BOB URBAN -
Bob has ~20 years of K-9 experience.17 of those years have been in Law Enforcement with the Parks
Service. He is now a Dective. For the last 4 years he has followed his Black and Tan Coonhound as his
trailing dog in SAR. He has a talent for being able to read a dog.
DENNIS SCHENK -
Dennis has been with Il-Wis SAR Dogs for the last 6 years. He works both scent specific dogs and
cadaver dogs. He has participated in over 38 searches and attended over 550 hrs of seminar classes. He
is a NASAR and CSAR member. He has been trained in HASMAT, Basic Management, and is a
SARTEC III
SANDRA ANDERSON -
Sande has been involved with canine detection for many many years. She has instructed both nationally &
internationally. Specializes in Cadaver and Narcotic detec.tion. She is the Director Great Lakes SAR, a
member NAPWADA, and US director of CSI
MARLENE AURAND -
Marlene started in Bloodhounds in 1974. In 1986, she began in K-9 handler training. She joined her
local sheriff's Department in 1988.She has attended seminars with over 600 hours of class instructing or
field training. Marlene has worked cases all over the mid-west in trailng, cadaver recovery, narcotics and
criminal evidence.She is a member of CSAR, NAPWADA, and TNC DOGS. She has hosted and co-
hosted numerous seminars.
TIM PERRY-
Tim is a Reserve officer for Maury Co.Sheriff Dept. with 11 years of trailing and cadaver experience and
35 water recoveries, he is the present President of CSAR, a member of LEBA and NPBA. He has
attended ~ 22 seminars. Presenter at SRDR (Search and Rescue Disaster) for 2 years.
JOHN NEWCOMER-
John is currently the Manager of the Indiana Public Safety Training Institute's Search and Rescue Training
Branch and the Search and Rescue Coordinator for the Indiana State Emergency Management Agency.
He is an Indiana certified emergency medical technician, 2nd class firefighter, and trained at the
Operations level for hazardous materials. John has been working with dogs for over 7 years and is a
certified police K-9 trainer and obedience trainer. He has assisted over 500 dogs and handlers in police
work, competition, security, search and rescue, obedience, personal protection, and behavioral
modification. John is a member of Dogs Against Drugs/Dogs Against Crime, Canine Search and
Recovery, Inc., and North American Search Dog Network.
CAROLYN KNAPP-
Carolyn is from Missouri. She has twenty years experience in handling SAR dogs and training and has
responded to approximately 200 missions in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Virginia, Tennessee and Kansas..
Specialities include trailing, cadaver and building search. Carolyn has served as instructor for past CSAR
seminars as well as other national and regional SAR seminars. She has trained Bloodhounds,
Otterhounds, GSDs, Labs and other breeds. Best search: Confirming the presence of a PERP, who
molested and cut up a 4yr old girl and left her for dead, then denied being around the area. She
survived.........He's in jail!!!! Carolyn is a founding member of CSAR, is Co-Editor of the Newsletter and
maintains the CSAR web site. She is Hug-A-Tree certified, has attended FEMA Urban SAR training,
Tactical Manhunt Operations and was a founding member of NASDN.
GINGER BRANYON -
Ginger is a founding member of CSAR has served on the board for 4 years and Co-Editor of the
Newsletter In the last 29 years, she has trained Bloodhounds, Labs, Police Dogs, and a variety of
breeds. She has worked her dogs in trailing, airscent, evidence recovery, arson, and cadaver. Ginger is an
expert witness for court. She has participated in hundreds of searches both as a dog handler and an
Incident Commander. She has flown to numerous states to work on cases. Ginger has often written
articles for different magazines and Bulletins. She was a founding member of NASDN and a local SAR
team. She has co-hosted several seminars and instructed at, and attended more than she can remember
including FEMA Urban SAR, Tactical Manhunt Operations and .US Coast Guard Inland SAR School.
